I put down 8 x 20kg bags of 10mm aggregate and then another 8 x 20kg bags of sand on top, for a shed of the same size. total cost was around £35 from b&q but you can probably get it cheaper from a builders' yard.. Sand as a base for a shed? so i built my base and someone told me to use sand and then some other person sand to use a-gravel the sand is hard packed so what do i use thanks? currently i have built it with 2z4 pressure treated wood with braces.. By measuring, cutting and fitting timber rails or steel shuttering to the shape of the base, board up the base as portrayed in the diagram. use a tape measure, spirit level, and tri-square to ensure the base with shuttering is 100% level and square. you should then lay approximately 3” (75mm) of concrete.. The sand gives the pavers something to settle into that will help hold them in place and a bed that will ensure they won't crack. conclusion . building a gravel shed foundation does involve a fair amount of hard work..
